Free Showing of “Walk the Line”

We’re all set! On Sunday, September 14th, at 2pm, there will be a FREE showing of “Walk the Line” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, sponsored by The Independent in celebration of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line” winning our Music Madness Tournament to become Central Nebraska’s Favorite Song.

Tell your friends! Show up at The Grand Theater in lovely Downtown Grand Island and watch a great movie!

“I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash! Central Nebraska has spoken and they have told us that they love Johnny Cash. On behalf of Jack, George, Pete, Mark and myself, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the voting. Over 46,00 votes were cast in the tournament! That’s amazing! We would also like to thank Matt and Julia at KSYZ for putting up with talking to Jack and George each week, and we also want to thank everyone who stopped by our weekly live chats to discuss good music.

On a date that is yet to be dtermined, the Independent will be sponsoring a free showing of the film, “Walk the Line” starring Joaquin Pheonix and Reese Witherspoon at The fantastically awesome Grand Theater in downtown Grand Island. We are still ironing out the details and will let you know as soon as everything’s set in stone.

So thank you again for voting and for hanging out with us for the last six weeks. It’s been a blast!

It’s been a fantastic tournament and you, the readers have made this a lot of fun. We only hope it’s been as much fun for you! I know personally, I’ve checked out a great many new tunes, had great arguments discussions with my friends and coworkers about what constitutes a favorite song, and why we ended up with the two songs we have in the championship. It’s been a great ride!

But voting is now complete. After six weeks we’ve whittled down a list of 256 songs to seek out Central Nebraska’s favorite. The winner will be announced Thursday morning! Thank you, all of you, for participating, for chatting with us, and for Twittering too!
